Senator Patrick M. Gallivan, (R-C-I, Elma) announces the New York State Department of Transportation will install center-line rumble strips along a stretch of route 16 in the Town of Sardinia. Residents raised concern about the safety of the road following an accident earlier this month that claimed the life of Cameron Velasquez, a SUNY Alfred State student. The Velasquez family collected over 5,000 signatures on a petition asking the DOT to consider installing the rumble strips.
As part of DOT’s statewide program to install center-line rumble strips, at targeted locations, they have moved ahead with scheduled work along a 5-mile stretch of route 16.
“I commend the Velasquez family and other residents for bringing this issue to our attention in an effort to prevent another family from suffering a similar loss,” Senator Gallivan said. “I believe these measures will improve the safety of the road and help prevent future accidents.”
