Senator Gallivan Congratulates REDC's for Securing State Funding

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) congratulates members of the Western New York and Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Councils for securing funding for dozens of local projects.  The projects were included in the latest round of state funding awarded through the Regional Economic Development Council program. The Western New York Regional Council has been awarded $67.3 million to support 109 projects and the Finger Lakes Regional Council has been awarded $64.4 million for a total of 94 projects.  Statewide, more than $761 million in economic and community development funding has been awarded to ten regions.

“The projects being funded through the Regional Economic Development program will help strengthen our communities and bring new opportunities to the region,” Senator Gallivan said.  “I thank the local leaders and stakeholders who have worked together to identify projects that improve the quality of life for residents, spur economic development, create jobs, boost tourism and help grow our economy.”

The Regional Councils were established in 2011 to jumpstart the economy and create jobs by empowering communities, business and academic leaders, as well as members of the public in each region of the state, to develop strategic plans specifically tailored to their region's unique strengths and resources, 

Projects within the 59^th State Senate District include:

Erie County

• $714,000 to Steuben Foods Inc. of Elma to expand its advanced food and beverage manufacturing facility. 
• $100,000 to the Village of Depew to complete an engineering report on improvements to the sanitary sewers in Sewershed No. 5.
• $943,884 to the Village of Lancaster to repair brick manholes and replace sanitary sewers. The project will improve water quality and reduce sanitary sewer overflows.

Wyoming County

• $50,000 to the Village of Arcade for sidewalks, lighting and a wayfinding system to highlight the area’s history.

• $25,000 to the Village of Arcade to develop a strategic plan for business development in the future. 
• $300,000 to the Village of Perry to assist in the renovation of mixed-use properties in the Village’s downtown.
• $300,000 to the Village of Perry to renovate the Perry Village Hall in order to bring the building into compliance with accessibility standards. 
• $29,992 to the Wyoming County Soil and Water Conservation District to complete an assessment report to prioritize which culverts need to be replaced in the Cattaraugus Creek and Oatka Creek watersheds. 

Livingston County

• $60,000 to Deer Run Winery in Geneseo to increase wine production capacity and introduce new and trending products in the marketplace.
• $20,000 to Livingston County Development Corporation for a building re-use analysis for the American Hotel in Lima.
• $20,000 to Livingston County Development Corporation to help develop a marketing plan to promote nine downtown districts in an effort to attract new businesses, residents and visitors.
• $1,000,000 to Livingston County Economic Development to establish a public market in the town of Avon.
• $100,000 to Livingston County Water & Sewer Authority for a capital improvement plan to reduce inflow and infiltration in the sanitary sewer system that serves the towns of Geneseo. Groveland, Conesus and Livonia.
• $574,999 to Town of Avon to complete rehabilitation of its historic Opera Block building into a regional center for artistic performances and community events.
• $25,000 to the Town of Lima to conduct a feasibility study to identify strategies for downtown revitalization and community investment in relation to public health, food access and food retail development.
• $24,000 to the Town of York to evaluate disinfection alternatives and other improvements at its wastewater treatment plant. 

Monroe County

• $78,700 to Genesee Country Village & Museum to increase targeted tourism-marketing efforts throughout the Northeast and Canada, and further promote and expand visitor engagement opportunities through agritourism.
