Senator Patrick M. Gallivan, (R-C-I, Elma) has been appointed the Ranking Member of the Senate Standing Committee on Health as the Senate prepares to begin its 2019 session on January 9.
“I am honored to serve in a leadership role on what is among the most important committees in the Legislature,” Senator Gallivan said. “Health care affects everyone and it comprises the largest part of the state budget. Quality health services are a concern for all and I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that health care in New York is accessible and affordable for everyone.”
The committee is expected to examine a number of health related issues during the upcoming session, including the rising cost of health care, uncertainty about the future of the Affordable Care Act and the possible legalization of adult-use marijuana.
Senator Gallivan is past Chairman of the Senate Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction. He also served as Vice Chair of the Senate Education Committee.
Senate Minority Leader John Flanagan has also appointed Gallivan Assistant Minority Leader for Floor Operations. It is one of ten key positions on the Senate Republican leadership team.
Additional committee assignments for 2019 are expected to be announced soon.
