State Senator Patty Ritchie recently delivered state funding to the Oswego County Town of Schroeppel to renovate and upgrade the tennis courts at the William J. Farley Jr. Community Park.
Community members and visitors use the courts as a way to have fun and get exercise. The restoration of the courts, which Senator Ritchie provided $50,000 for, included a new surface with lines, as well as fencing around the new courts.
“It’s so important that our communities have places where people can get outside, get active and have fun at the same time,” said Senator Patty Ritchie. “I am pleased to be able to provide the Town of Schroeppel with this funding, which has helped them improve the quality and safety of its tennis courts and in turn, enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors to the area.”
“Sue Nelson, our Community Services Coordinator, and I, were excited to officially open the tennis courts to the community,” said Lynett Greco, Supervisor of the Town of Schroeppel. “I am amazed how many young people are getting outside and enjoying these courts. We thank Senator Ritchie for securing the necessary funds for this revitalization of our tennis courts.”
In addition to allowing the town to continue to offer private and group tennis lessons through its Community Services Office, the new courts will help the town grow its tennis and pickleball programs. The courts will also be used as a site for the United States Tennis Association tennis program offered through the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.
