State Senator Patty Ritchie was proud to recently present two Ogdensburg sisters with the New York State Senate’s Commendation Award for their creation of the “PJs for Christmas” program—an annual effort that has helped ensure tens of thousands of area children have warm, comfortable pajamas each holiday season.
With help from their parents, Abigail and Camille Marshall began the “PJs for Christmas” program a decade ago. In its 10 years, the sisters were able to raise more than $57,000—allowing them to donate pajamas to more than 16,000 children throughout Northern New York.
“Abigail and Camille Marshall are proof that age has no bearing when it comes to helping others,” said Senator Patty Ritchie. “At a very young age, these two individuals took an idea and turned it into a reality, helping tens of thousands of children in need. I am proud to present them with this honor, thank them for the inspiring work they have done and wish them the best as they continue to make a difference.”
The Marshall sisters worked closely with numerous local organizations for this program including the St. Lawrence County and Jefferson County Foster Care Programs, local neighborhood centers, the Renewal House, Head Start programs, Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army and many more.
The New York State Senate Commendation Award recognizes exceptional people who have made a lasting contribution to their community. Award recipients devote their personal time, energy, creativity and expertise to others. They also are leaders in their community who enrich the social, health and educational well-being of their fellow citizens.
