State Senator Patty Ritchie is encouraging St. Lawrence County residents to do a little ‘spring cleaning’ and dispose of waste tires at a free “Tire Take Back” event happening on Saturday, May 11 in Ogdensburg.
“Waste tires aren’t just unsightly, they also can harm the environment and act as breeding ground for mosquitoes, which have the potential to carry deadly diseases,” said Senator Patty Ritchie. “I am pleased to again partner with St. Lawrence County officials to host this free event, and encourage anyone with waste tires to dispose of to take advantage of this free opportunity to do so.”
Details of the event—which is being hosted in conjunction with the St. Lawrence County Solid Waste and Highway Departments—are as follows:
Date: Saturday, May 11th
Time: 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Location: Ogdensburg Transfer Station (522 County Route 28-A)
Please note that residents will have the opportunity to dispose of up to eight car or light truck tires at no cost. Tires must be separated from rims. Larger tires, and those still on rims will not be accepted.
This event continues Senator Ritchie’s efforts to stop the spread of mosquito borne illnesses. Since 2013, nearly 100,000 waste tires have been recycled through similar events—helping to eliminate breeding ground for millions of mosquitoes, protect the environment and beautify the region.
