Senator Harckham Gains State Funding for North Salem Improvement Projects
December 18, 2019
North Salem, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today $170,000 in state grant funding has been awarded to the Town of North Salem to complete two improvement projects—one at Front Street in Croton Falls and another in the Candlewood Lake Park District.
“The Town of North Salem has wisely embarked on a wide number of infrastructure repairs, renovations and upgrades that will span the next several years,” said Harckham. “I am pleased to announce funding that will help continue this work and alleviate some of the financial burden connected with these enhancements.”
The awarded grant funding, which Harckham secured within the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM), will pay for the purchase property on Front Street that will create more Town owned parking in Croton Falls. Right now, the Town does not own any parking on Front Street, and establishing more parking opportunities for residents and visitors near the Metro North Railroad station in the village would further the Town’s Croton Falls 2025 Plan. The total grant funding for this project is $120,000.
The remaining $50,000 in grant funding will go toward replacing the nine pillars at the entranceway of the Candlewood Lake Park District, which the Town of North Salem operates. The current pillars, made of cement and plaster in the 1950s, serve as an unofficial “gateway” to the Town on Route 22, but have crumbled and collapsed in recent years to the extent that they are now an eyesore. Their replacements will be constructed with natural stone.
“The funding Senator Harckham has secured for North Salem is truly appreciated,” said Warren J. Lucas, supervisor of Town of North Salem. “By helping us to further these two projects, we are that much closer to achieving long-term goals for beautification and sustainability in the Town.”
In the past 10 months, Harckham has secured SAM funding for numerous community projects and municipal initiatives in Westchester County, including ballfield renovations at Millwood Recreation Park in the Town of New Castle, a new police car and stop signs in Somers and trail improvements in Peekskill’s Fort Hill Park—saving county taxpayers more than $2.6 million in spending.
State Senator Harckham represents New York's 40th District, which includes the towns of Beekman, Pawling and the village of Pawling in Dutchess County; the towns of Carmel, Patterson and Southeast, and the village of Brewster in Putnam County; and the city of Peekskill, the towns of Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers and Yorktown, the town/village of Mount Kisco, and the villages of Briarcliff Manor, Buchanan, Croton-on-Hudson, Pleasantville and Sleepy Hollow in Westchester County.
