Senator Rachel May Honors Teacher and Community Advocate Sylvia Matousek
March 15, 2019
Albany, NY - This week, Senator Rachel May (SD-53) issued a commendation in honor of the late Sylvia Matousek, of DeWitt, for her indefatigable advocacy on behalf of Central New Yorkers.
Sylvia was a teacher for North Syracuse Central School District for 46 years, President of the North Syracuse Education Association for 37 years, and served on the NYS United Teachers Board of Directors for 20 years. She worked tirelessly to improve the lives of her students and fellow teachers throughout her life. Sylvia continued her community activism after retirement and served as chairperson of the DeWitt Democratic Committee for many years.
Central New York will miss this fierce advocate.
