This was another difficult year for homeowners, businesses, and communities along the Lake Ontario shoreline. I’ve been working in Albany to find short-term and long-term solutions to recurring and persistent flooding.
Earlier this year the Department of Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) announced that they would be launching a 2019 Individual Homeowner Assistance Program, with up to $20 million available for homeowners affected by the 2019 Lake Ontario & St. Lawrence River flooding.
The application for that state funding to help assist homeowners is now available.
Homeowners that were impacted by flooding in Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Cayuga, Jefferson, Oswego, St. Lawrence, and Wayne counties are eligible and could receive up to $50,000 in state funding. However, flooding damage must have occurred between January 1, 2019, and September 20, 2019, to be eligible to receive this funding.
You can find the application and information on eligibility here: https://hcr.ny.gov/lake-ontario-st-lawrence-river-flood-relief-and-recovery-grant-program
The deadline to submit the application is October 31, 2019, and it is crucial you have your completed application submitted by this date.
