Felder Applauds Governor’s Additional $15 Million HEAP Funding
February 18, 2019
Starting Tuesday, February 19, households in danger of having their utility service shut off or running out of heating fuel may apply for a second emergency benefit through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). In addition, the application period for both regular and emergency HEAP benefits has been extended to April 26.
HEAP households are typically eligible to receive one regular benefit each winter, and one emergency HEAP benefit in the event of an energy crisis. This initiative qualifies households that have already received a regular and emergency benefit this HEAP season to apply for additional assistance if they are faced with the possibility of a utility shut off or running out of heating fuel.
“I applaud the Governor’s action today providing an additional $15 million in crucial support to help New Yorkers stay warm and healthy through the winter,” said Senator Felder. "Winter heating bills add up quickly and can put a real strain on family budgets. HEAP is a vital resource that helps so many New Yorkers who are struggling to make ends meet.”
Applications for emergency HEAP are accepted at departments of social services and at approved local HEAP facilitators including BPJCC at 4912 14th Avenue, 718-972-6600 and COJO of Flatbush at 1523 Avenue M, 718 377-2900.
