Senator Andrew Gounardes, Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein, Assemblywoman Jaime Williams and Councilman Alan Maisel Announce “United in Thanks” March for Essential Workers on August 2nd

Brooklyn, NY - State Senator Andrew Gounardes, Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein, Assemblywoman Jaime Williams and Councilman Alan Maisel announced today that they will hold a “United in Thanks” March in support of essential workers on August 2st at 1 p.m. in Marine Park. Participants will meet at around the oval. At 2 p.m., there will be a vigil to commemorate essential workers and others lost to COVID-19. 

Event partners include Marine Park Civic, Marine Park Alliance, Gerritsen Beach Property Owners, Gerritsen Beach Cares and JCC of Marine Park. 

The march is family friendly and social distancing/wearing of masks will be required. Masks, sanitizer and signs will be handed out at the event.

“Our essential workers brought us through the devastation of COVID, even as hundreds lost their lives. One way to begin to move forward is to unite as a neighborhood to thank those who powered our city through dark days and commemorate those we lost. I hope this helps our community continue to heal from the trauma as we honor the brave essential workers who saved lives throughout this pandemic,” said State Senator Andrew Gounardes.

"These brave and consummate professionals continue to put their lives on the line, day after day. Their around the clock care and attention to ensure the health and safety of others have enhanced and saved so many lives. We will forever be in their debt,” said Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein.

“We can never  properly express our gratitude and appreciation to those that have put their lives on the line and continue to do so with courage and fearlessness. We must also never forget their sacrifice and constantly offer our support and love for these brave men and women. Standing in solidarity with our front line workers can help illustrate our love and appreciation for their continued devotion to combating this pandemic.” stated Assemblymember Jaime Williams (D-59th AD).

"First and foremost, we remember all those who lost their lives to Covid-19. We offer our sincere condolences to their families and friends. During an unprecedented time in our city’s history, we would be remiss if we did not recognize and honor our essential workers who bravely stood at the front lines for our community. Today, we say – THANK YOU,” stated Council Member Alan Maisel.

Senator Andrew Gounardes is also planning a “United in Thanks” March in Bay Ridge on August 1st in partnership with Councilman Justin Brannan, AAANY, Bay Ridge Cares, Chinese-American Planning Council, NIA Community Services Network, and United Chinese Association, Bay Ridge Community Council and the Guild for Exceptional Children.
