Senator Andrew Gounardes' Statement on the Passage of the COVID-19 Emergency Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Act
December 28, 2020
Brooklyn, NY -- The following statement can be attributed to State Senator Andrew Gounardes:
"Today New Yorkers can breathe a sigh of relief that they will not be evicted from their homes or foreclosed upon as a result of financial struggles due to the pandemic.
"This was a necessary first step to stabilize our housing ecosystem. Now that the federal government has finally enacted a relief bill, we must ensure the health of our housing ecosystem by using the $1.3 billion allocated to New York for rental assistance to help pay back rent for the estimated 1 million NY households that are behind on their rent, provide housing stability for those who are in need, and ensure that neither tenants nor property owners are left holding the bag for a financial crisis created by this pandemic.”
