CARLE PLACE, NY (September 12, 2020) - State Senator Anna M. Kaplan (D-Great Neck) today issued a warning to residents of Nassau County about a misinformation campaign that is targeting households in our community in an effort to sow distrust in a potential coronavirus vaccine. The letter, which has the word WARNING written across the top in bold black letters in an effort to appear to be an official notice, was found taped to the front doors of dozens of homes on the North Shore of Nassau County today, causing residents to be extremely upset by both the dangerous claims made in the letter, and the potential motivation of people who would choose to spread such falsehoods here in our community.
Senator Anna M. Kaplan said "I'm absolutely disgusted that some coward would spend their time trying to scare parents with anonymous notes like this full of lies and conspiracy theories. There is absolutely no excuse for spreading misinformation and fear here in our community at a time when Nassau residents are doing their best just to get by during these incredibly challenging times.
Information surrounding the incident has been shared with local and state authorities, as well as Nassau County Police, and any resident with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Senator Kaplan's office at 516-746-5924 or by email kaplan@nysenate.gov
Senator Kaplan concluded "we're not going to sit back and let people strike fear into the hearts of our neighborhoods. The people who are responsible for this will be found, and we will make sure that this kind of behavior is not allowed to continue here in Nassau."
