On Thursday, September 3 at 8:50am, Senator Anna M. Kaplan, Rabbi Tara Feldman and Cantor Adam Davis of Temple Beth-El of Great Neck joined the the executive team, emergency department, nurse managers, nurses, doctors, department directors, and chaplaincy team of North Shore University Hospital for an honorary sounding of the shofar in an offering of prayers, hope and encouragement for the healthcare heroes at NSUH, Northwell Health, and the greater community. This was part of a project called "Renewal in Elul" undertaken by Temple Beth-El to be a community-oriented spiritual "wake up" call and a way to honor those in our community who give so much of themselves.
ABOUT ELUL: Elul is the 12th and final month in the Jewish calendar. It is a month that connects the past year with the coming year, and as such it is a time for reflection. During the month of Elul, it is customary to blow the shofar (ram's horn) every morning to "wake up" and prepare for the High Holy days.
