Senator Hoylman Proclaims November 14 as 'Ruth Rosner Appreciation Day'

NEW YORK -- Today, State Senator Brad Hoylman (Manhattan-D/WFP) issued an official New York State Senate proclamation declaring November 14, 2020 as Ruth Rosner Appreciation Day in New York’s 27th Senate District. Ms. Rosner was celebrated across the country after she was filmed walking to her early voting site in the 2020 election by Faith Salie, an Upper West Side resident and a panelist on NPR’s Wait Wait...Don’t Tell Me. The 104-year old Ms. Rosner has voted in every presidential and midterm election since 1936, and her first vote was for Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She has cast her vote for President 22 times.

Senator Hoylman said: “Ruth Rosner exemplifies the democratic spirit of New Yorkers. Nothing will stop us from voting, not even a pandemic. I am extraordinarily proud to represent Ruth, grateful for her many contributions to New York City and the Lincoln Square community—and especially moved by Ruth’s commitment to participating in our democracy. I am thrilled to declare November 14, 2020 to be Ruth Rosner Appreciation Day.”

Ruth Rosner was born on March 30, 1916. A lifelong New Yorker, she has dedicated her time to the betterment of her city by engaging in political organizing from a young age and fighting to advance the role of women in business and civic life. Since 1972, Ms. Rosner has lived in the Lincoln Square community. She and her late husband Lester Rosner raised their daughter, Laurie Rosner, in the iconic Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village community.
