Statement From Senator Brad Hoylman On Federal Government’s Insufficient Regulation Of E-Cigarette Products
January 2, 2020
NEW YORK—Today, the federal government announced new regulations on e-cigarette after months of pressure from the vaping industry. In response, Senator Brad Hoylman issued the following statement:
“Today, President Trump capitulated to the vaping industry. After initially proposing a comprehensive ban on dangerous e-cigarette products, the FDA’s final rule fails to regulate many flavored vaping liquids that Big Tobacco uses to lure in a new generation of nicotine addicts.
This latest failure from the Trump Administration means New York must step in to fill the gap. We must ban all flavored e-cigarette products, including flavored e-liquid used in tank vaping systems. I’m committed to passing my bill to ban all flavored vaping products in New York.”
Assembly Member Linda B. Rosenthal introduced legislation to prohibit the sale and distribution of flavored e-cigarettes, and Senator Hoylman sponsors the bill in the New York State Senate.
