NEW YORK — Following Governor Cuomo's announcement of an Executive Order on absentee ballot drop-offs, Senator Brad Hoylman (D/WF-Manhattan) issued the following statement. Senator Hoylman is the prime sponsor of legislation (S.8902 / A.10942) that would allow local Boards of Elections to establish absentee ballot drop box locations across the state.
Senator Hoylman said: “I’m glad the Governor is exploring alternatives to allow voters to drop off ballots without relying on the US Postal Service because of Trump’s disgraceful attempts to undermine this federal agency and discredit voting by mail. But given the crisis in our mail system and the health concerns with in-person voting, we must do more. New York should join 33 other states and the District of Columbia by enabling the deployment of secure ballot drop boxes across the state through my legislation (S.8902/A.10942) with Assembly Member Dick Gottfried. Nothing less than the integrity of our democracy and the health and safety of voters are at stake."
