Senator Carlucci on 5 Year Anniversary of Valhalla Metro-North Train Crash & Still No Rail Safety Study By the State
Senator David Carlucci
February 3, 2020
Today, marks 5 years since the deadliest train crash in Metro-North history. In 2016, I helped pass a law, requiring a rail safety study of all rail crossings in the State. Despite multiple train crashes since Valhalla, the NYSDOT remains in violation of the law. The study due on April 1, 2017 has never been produced and would have helped the State determine safety improvements at crossings and which ones may need to be closed all together. We do not want to see what happened to mother, Ellen Brody and five people on board the Metro-North train at the Valhalla Commerce Street crossing happen ever again.”
