Senator Carlucci's Statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Albany, NY – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) released the following statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

"On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we solemnly remember the 6 million Jews and millions of other victims who were systemically killed by the Nazis. We remember people who fought back, who helped save each other, and individuals who helped Jews despite the consequences. We must never forget their harrowing stories or their lessons. 
As we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp, we are reminded about the power of silence and inaction. Today, we see a rise in hate crimes and anti-Semitism. We cannot remain silent. We must stand up to hatred and anti-Semitism by denouncing it wherever we see it. And if there is an opportunity to teach others, we take it. 
 
We must further support outreach and education for our young people. I am proud to support legislation to increase instruction about symbols of hate in our schools and support more outreach between our schools and holocaust museums. Hate is not something anyone is born with, it's a learned behavior, and we can teach better against it. Never again must mean never again.”
