Senator David Carlucci Calls For Delay on the Sales Tax Revenue Collection

(New City, NY) – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) penned a letter with other senate colleagues, calling on the State to help stabilize the small business community by delaying the quarterly sales tax payments without penalty, which are due tomorrow. 

Senator David Carlucci said, "Our communities rely heavily on the economic health of our small businesses." They support our communities by providing jobs to residents, and now small businesses cannot afford to keep staff on their payroll. We have to do everything we can to ease their burden during this difficult time."

The letter written to the Governor in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to the mandated closing of thousands of small businesses like restaurants, bars, and gyms.

Senator Carlucci said if thousands of small businesses are left to fail than the livelihood of countless New Yorkers will be adversely impacted and local economies will suffer. 

Small businesses still have overhead costs, while closed, including, rent, mortgage payments, payroll, electric bills, and more. Carlucci said this temporary relief of the upcoming sales tax payment could be the difference between keeping staff employed and staying open or shutting forever. 
"We must act now because our small businesses are struggling to survive," said Carlucci.
