Senator Borrello Named Ranking Member of Budget and Revenues Committee
January 27, 2020
ALBANY – Senator George Borrello (57th District) has been named as the ranking member of the New York State Senate Committee on Budget and Revenues.
“I am proud to be named the ranking member of a committee that is involved in the budget process as well as in larger discussions about state spending priorities. With my background in county government, I have a strong understanding of how the state budget and funding formulas impact our municipalities,” said Senator Borrello. “Particularly as we approach a legislative session that will include the challenge of closing a $6.1 million budget gap, I look forward to contributing to the conversation about how best to tackle this problem without further burdening our state taxpayers.”
“Many budget and revenue issues will be central to the work of the Local Government committee, which I also look forward to serving. As a member, I am committed to advancing ideas about how to address some of the most intractable issues at the local level and reducing their growing fiscal burdens, particularly in our rural, upstate communities which are coping with unique challenges such as population loss, aging infrastructure and shifting economies,” said Senator Borrello.
Senator Borrello will also serve as a member of the Senate Committees on Banks, Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business, and Internet/Technology.
“One of my top priorities as a State Senator is to work on behalf of policies aimed at improving the state’s challenging business climate. My own experience as a small business owner has given me a firsthand perspective on how difficult New York makes it for entrepreneurs to launch and grow their businesses. That background will be valuable to my work on the Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business Committee,” Senator Borrello said.
“Together with appointments to the Senate Committees on Banks and Internet/Technology, I look forward to the opportunities each role will offer to shape policies that address the challenges of industry, promote economic growth and serve the public interest. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.”
