Senator James Sanders Jr. Commends Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders on their Coronavirius Response Plans; Says Military Action Could Assist With Healthcare Efforts
March 13, 2020
Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockway) commended presidential candidates former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders for their level-headed, responsible thinking as well as the recommendations that they made in speeches yesterday addressing the coronavirus and noted that they are in stark contrast to the disjointed information and planning that has come from President Trump regarding this worldwide pandemic.
Bernie Sanders is calling for the President to declare a national emergency, the implementation of universal healthcare, free coronavirus testing and a free vaccine when one becomes available. In addition, he advises emergency unemployment assistance for those who lose their jobs, the creation of more homeless shelters for people who are displaced during this pandemic and a moratorium on evictions, foreclosures and utility shut offs.
Joe Biden is calling for immediate emergency healthcare, making coronavirus testing widely available and free, ensuring that we have the resources to sustain a strong first responder workforce, paid family sick leave, government transparency and a national response that is dictated by healthcare professionals and based on science not politics.
Biden’s complete plan is on his website and he said he isn’t waiting to get elected to see these measures put in place, but that President Trump is “welcome” to adopt his plan “It’s critical to mount an effective national response that will save lives, protect our frontline health workers, slow the spread of the virus,” Biden said.
In addition to the advice from Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, Senator James Sanders Jr., a Marine Corps veteran has advised that we engage the nation’s military for assistance, making use of their engineers and medical personnel to set up field hospitals in case current facilities and staff become overwhelmed.
“We need to work together as a people to help each through this crisis, which many say will get a lot worse before it gets better,” Senator James Sanders Jr. said. “We need to replace fear and panic, with facts, education and science and my office will be doing its part to provide all the information and resources we can to our constituents.”
