Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) in cooperation with the NYC Board of Elections, today lead by example and voted early at his polling site location - the Rockaway YMCA. Senator Sanders was greeted warmly by constituents, poll workers and others as he cast his ballot and invited others to do the same.

"I think voting is important and I am encouraging everyone to come out and vote," Sanders said. "The BOE is making the process easy. It's over in a moment and I even got a sticker and a wristband that says 'I Voted Early.'"

New Yorkers' busy schedules often make it difficult to get to the polls and vote. That's why NYS Senator James Sanders Jr. passed a law to allow registered voters to vote in person before - Election Day - starting June 13th - at a designated early voting site.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the BOE is providing hand sanitizer and masks for poll workers and voters and is ensuring that all people practice social distancing.

"We encourage you to come out and vote early, if you haven't already," said Valerie Vazquez-Diaz. Director of Communications and Public Relations for the NYC Board of Elections. "We have made many accommodations so that voters can vote in-person safely. If you don't have a mask, we will provide one for you. All of our poll workers are wearing masks."

Early voting works the same as voting on Election Day. Just show up at your early voting site, check in to receive your ballot, and cast your vote.

“On behalf of the YMCA of Greater New York, we are advocates of early voting, and giving people options,” said Michael Garcia, Executive Director of the Rockaway YMCA. “We want to continue to strengthen communities.”
