Skoufis Announces $380,800 for Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh
Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) announced that as part of the Empire State After-School Program, the Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh will receive $380,800 in state funding to support its after school programming.
This past summer, The Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh was denied two state grants they applied for through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Because the office would not re-open their grant application, Senator Skoufis advocated internally for the funding to come from another program.
Senator Skoufis worked diligently on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club to figure out a solution for them to get the funding they need. After months of tireless advocacy, yesterday, the Governor announced that $380,800K will be rewarded to the Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh.
“Over the past several months, I continued to push the state to deliver this much-needed funding to the Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh” said Senator Skoufis. “The Boys and Girls Club’s work is so important to young people in this city and it’s imperative that the state continues to invest in Newburgh. When kids have a safe and empowering environment to develop cognitive and social skills, it sets them up for greater success, which is why I’ll never stop fighting to support the very programs that do just that.”
Kevin White, the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh said, “The Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh is extremely excited about this funding as it allows us to continue providing quality after school programs in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. It helps us to continue to support our efforts to ensure that every child is reading at grade level and I look forward to continuing to work with Senator Skoufis on behalf of the city.”
The Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh serves Newburgh’s community offering arts, academics, and athletic programs for those between ages 5 - 19.
