Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) announced that he secured a commitment from Central Hudson, one of the Hudson Valley’s largest utility providers, to clean up and remove graffiti from utility boxes in the City of Newburgh.
Over the summer, Senator Skoufis’ team traveled throughout the city identifying utility boxes, poles, and other locations with graffiti or tags on them. Skoufis then sent a list of each identified location to Central Hudson and asked that they commit to cleaning the sites up; this week, Skoufis secured a commitment that they will remove graffiti from all the Central Hudson-owned locations he and his team identified in the City of Newburgh.
This includes utility boxes at Unico Park, 2nd Street, South Water Street, Renwick Street, and Cerone Place. Boxes at all these locations had graffiti and/or stickers on them. This is part of Senator Skoufis’ ongoing clean up effort throughout his Senate District.
“The beautification of our communities uplifts both residents and small business owners because when our streets are clean and our environment is healthy, we all win,” said Senator Skoufis. “I thank Central Hudson for agreeing to this commitment and I look forward to working to continue implementing these types of initiatives in our communities.”
Earlier this month, Skoufis and his team joined together to clean and paint Xavier Lunan Park in the City of Newburgh. Additionally, this summer, Skoufis and his team partnered with Outdoor Promise, a nonprofit organization that works with communities to promote environmental protection, to clean up and paint Downing Park in the City of Newburgh.
Central Hudson will report back to Senator Skoufis’ office once the clean-ups are all completed.
