Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I,REF-Glenville) today visited the City of Schenectady Fire Department, where he joined Mayor Gary McCarthy and Fire Chief Raymond Senecal (see attached photo), to announce a $1 million New York State grant he secured to enable the City to purchase two new firetrucks to help fight fires and save lives.
Tedisco secured the grant through the New York State Economic Development Capital Program to allow the Schenectady Fire Department to purchase a 1500 gpm “Fire Engine” and a “Fire Quint,” which deploys a 78-foot aerial ladder and has 1500 gpm capabilities.
Both pieces of firefighting equipment were made in America and built by the Rosenbauer Company in Wyoming, Minnesota. The total cost of the project was $1,143,000 with $1 million in funding coming from Senator Tedisco’s office and the remaining $143,000 financed by the City of Schenectady.
The new apparatus will replace two pieces of equipment that were over 20 years old. Both new fire trucks are currently in service and are assigned to the Fire Department’s headquarters on Veeder Avenue.
“Our courageous firefighters in Schenectady and across our area put their lives on the line every time they respond to an emergency. The most important job we can do as elected representatives is to support those individuals and organizations in any way we can who keep our communities and the public safe. I was proud to be able to secure this $1 million state grant for the City of Schenectady Fire Department to purchase two new fire trucks and return tax dollars back to the 49thSenate District to help support our heroic first responders and enhance their efforts to fight fires and protect the public,” said Senator Jim Tedisco.
“Thank you to Senator Tedisco’s office for helping the City of Schenectady Fire Department keep our citizens safe. Your assistance is greatly appreciated,” said Schenectady Fire Chief Raymond Senecal.
