Tedisco: Rotterdam Purse Snatcher Charged with 2nd Crime in Schenectady, Faces Potential Release Today Due to Bail Reform Law

“We continue to see the mayhem and havoc caused by the new Bail and Discovery Reform Law that’s being wrought against innocent, law-abiding citizens by individuals who for the past 42 days have been released back into the community as part of a revolving door of danger and disaster.”

“We have learned that a woman, Casey L. Buckley, who is accused of allegedly shoving an 84-year-old woman in Rotterdam and stealing her purse outside the Price Chopper on Altamont Avenue in Rotterdam also stole a wallet from a victim at the Price Chopper on Eastern Avenue in Schenectady. Buckley has been charged with third degree robbery, fourth-degree grand larceny and second degree robbery in the cases. The perpetrator has at least two prior felony and five misdemeanor convictions and has failed to appear at two previous court appearances.  Under the new bail reform law, Buckley may be released today, according to the Daily Gazette.”

“When is enough going to be enough? Clearly the facts and evidence are not debatable. It’s a fact that this individual is a serial criminal who endangered the lives of those in my Senate district and the huge criminal uptick in crime in New York City also indicates the danger surrounding all New York State residents. I took an oath of office and have an obligation to call for and authored legislation to bring sanity back to New York State and provide discretion for judges (S.6861/A.9047) and repeal (S.6849/A.8855) this flawed and dangerous so-called criminal justice law.”
