Tedisco, Walsh, NYS Legislature Honor Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Girls Volleyball & Boys Cross Country State Champions

Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I, REF-Glenville) and Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I-Ballston) today honored the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Class A State Champion Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Girls Varsity Volleyball Team and the school’s Federation Champion Boys Cross Country Team and presented the teams with copies of resolutions they sponsored that unanimously passed the New York State Legislature.
The Burnt Hills Girls Volleyball Team captured the NYSPHSAA Class A title with a victory over West Irondequoit High School on November 24th. The Spartans finished the campaign with an outstanding overall record of 31-5. The team has now won their 18thconsecutive regional championship and their 7thstate championship.
This is the fourth straight NYSPHSAA state title for the Burnt Hills Boys Cross Country Team. The Spartans finished with an impressive Suburban Council dual meet record of 14-1. The team has now won their 21stSection 2 championship locally, 9thstate title, and 2ndFederation title. The Spartans went on to place in the Top 20 at the Nike Cross Country National Championships in Portland, Oregon.
Both Burnt Hills teams have taken the concept of “scholar athlete” to heart. The Burnt Hills Girls Volleyball Team has a combined grade point average (GPA) of 97.3 percent and the Boys Cross Country Team has a team GPA of 93.4 percent.

These young people are not just outstanding athletes but they also are exceptional scholars who have achieved unbelievable success in the classroom and through athletic competition,” said Senator Jim Tedisco, a former star college and high school basketball player, who later served as a high school athletic director and coach.
