Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskills, NY…Senator Jen Metzger (SD-42) lauded participation by Sullivan County’s Bethel Creamery in New York State's Nourish NY Initiative, a new state program that supplies fresh, healthy New York-produced food and dairy products to those in need. The Creamery delivered 120 cases of organic, kosher yogurt and 900 bottles of organic, kosher milk to Masbia Soup Kitchen in Boro Park, Brooklyn, thanks to this new state program. As Chair of the Senate’s Agriculture Committee, Senator Metzger has been working closely with New York farms and the Department of Agriculture and Markets during the COVID-19 crisis to make sure that farm-fresh products in the region can be purchased by food banks to serve food-insecure communities in need.
"Our local food producers have been hit hard during this pandemic, and this state program is a great way to support our farms while also addressing the growing problem of food insecurity during this difficult time," said Senator Metzger. “I am so pleased to see the fresh, high-quality kosher dairy products produced by Sullivan County’s Bethel Creamery reach communities in need."
Through the Nourish NY initiative, the state government is providing $25 million in funding to food banks throughout the state for the purchase of New York-produced fruits, vegetables, and dairy products to feed the growing numbers of people facing food insecurity.
