February 27, 2020
Sullivan County, NY...Senator Jen Metzger (SD-42) presented the New York State Senate’s Empire Award to the Hurleyville General Store and the Neversink General Store in Sullivan County on Saturday, February 22.
“The Neversink General Store is a warm and welcoming community hub where neighbors chat, hold meetings, and even take a yoga or painting class," said Senator Metzger. "The owners and their team are dedicated to serving the community in so many different ways, including supporting local businesses, artists and craftspeople by selling their products, and serving up delicious home-cooked meals using farm-fresh and local ingredients. I am thrilled to present them with the New York State Empire Award."
From the Neversink General Store, Senator Metzger then traveled to Hurleyville to meet with Denise and Rob Lombardi, owners of Hurleyville General Store.
“The Hurleyville General Store is a values-driven business that puts inclusivity at the forefront, and I was proud to deliver a New York State Senate Empire Award this past weekend to owners Denise and Rob Lombardi in recognition of their entrepreneurial success and dedication to uplifting all community members,” said Senator Metzger. “I had a great time perusing the store, which is filled with handcrafted products made right here in New York, sourced from small businesses that employ people with special needs, women-owned businesses, and more. Congratulations, Hurleyville General Store!”
The NYS Senate Empire Award was created to recognize business excellence, and recipients are often leaders in their industry who make significant community contributions to impact New York State. In the case of the Neversink and Hurleyville General Stores, both have contributed significantly to their respective communities’ quality of life.
