Statement from Senator Metzger on Sullivan County Taking Steps to Sell Nursing Home and Short-Term Rehabilitation Facility, Care Center
July 15, 2020
“I am extremely concerned about the impacts that the sale of the Care Center at Sunset Lake could have on the quality of care residents receive, as well as on the county employees who care for them. We have seen too many examples of nursing homes cutting costs at the expense of residents' care once they've been privatized. While I understand the severe fiscal constraints the County faces as a result of this pandemic, the sale of this facility is a permanent decision with long-term impacts that should be carefully considered. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a relief package that includes assistance to counties, and hopefully the Senate will act soon and counties will see some fiscal relief in the coming months.”
