March 3, 2020
Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently welcomed student musicians from Long Island who were selected as part of the New York State School Music Association's (NYSSMA) All-State Jazz Ensemble. The students were in the State Capital in Albany to perform in early March to kick off the National and State "Music in Our Schools Month" celebration.
Joining Senator Flanagan in Albany are (from left to right) Smithtown High School West trumpeter Michael Golub, Commack High School saxophonist Michael Parrinello and Smithtown High School West guitarist Liam Reynolds.
“It was my pleasure to welcome these three extraordinary musicians to Albany to recognize their talents and to celebrate the importance of music education in our schools. These young men are fine examples of how music in our schools enhances the academic careers of our youth and expands the experiences that will shape the academic future of our students. I congratulate these young men, their families and the teachers who have guided them on their musical journey,” stated Senator Flanagan.
