STATEMENT FROM STATE SENATOR JOHN LIU
ON NYC SCHOOL CLOSING THROUGH THE REST OF THE YEAR
“Closing NYC schools through the rest of the school year is the right decision. Remote learning for the rest of the academic year will keep our children, teachers, staff and administrators safe amid the COVID-19 epidemic. Even so, there is no doubt that school closures will be difficult on students and families. The NYS Senate Committee on NYC Education will work with our partners in education to ensure that our children have what they need to continue learning, and that the eventual transition back to traditional school goes smoothly. Thank you to everyone involved in educating our kids; your hard work, flexibility and guidance have provided a lifeline to NYC children during the time of crisis. We all look forward to the day we can reunite in person and continue to learn together in the classroom; until then, let’s continue to stay home and keep our families and community as safe as possible during these unprecedented times.”
