College students and high school seniors that plan to attend college who live in State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr.’s district now have the chance to apply for a pair of scholarships through the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators.
There will be a total of four state-wide scholarship winners, with two students being awarded $4,000 for the Assemblyman James D. Conte Memorial Academic Scholarship, and two students winning the $4,000 Senator John J. Marchi Memorial Athletic Scholarship.
Applicants for the scholarships MUST reside within Addabbo’s 15th Senatorial District, even if the college they attend/plan to attend falls outside of the district borders. If you are unsure if you live in NY Senate District 15, visit https://www.nysenate.gov/find-my-senator and insert your address.
“As President of the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators, I am pleased to announce these scholarships to the amazing students living in my district,” Addabbo said. “With the cost of colleges continuing to rise, any amount of financial aid we can offer will benefit prospective students. I hope to see students from my district walk away with one of these scholarships to help propel them to their dreams of higher education.”
Students looking to apply for the Academic Scholarship must have demonstrated a grade point average of 85 and over, have good conduct and demonstrate the dedication to pursue and complete a higher education degree, are active in community service and extracurricular activities, and can demonstrate financial need.
Applicants for the Athletic Scholarship must meet all the requirements listed above, as well as being involved in an organized sport or sports.
All those who wish to apply for either scholarship must also include a brief biography listing honors received, volunteer service activities, clubs, extracurricular activities, etc.; a brief outline of their educational goals; a brief outline of their financial need; a brief essay (500 words) on a current public issue of interest; and a school transcript indicating their GPA (incoming freshman must provide a high school transcript and college acceptance letter).
The submission deadline for both scholarships is March 16, 2020. This is the last date for students to submit their application to Addabbo’s office.
Scholarship winners will be determined in April and are required to attend the award ceremony held in Albany on May 18, 2020.
If you should have any questions or would like to receive a scholarship application, please contact Anthony Giudice in Addabbo’s Howard Beach office at 718-738-1111 or via email at giudice@nysenate.gov.
