As a way to help constituents recycle their electronic waste, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. will be partnering with other local elected officials to bring an E-waste recycling event to Forest Park this fall.

On Sunday, October 11, Addabbo, Assemblyman Mike Miller and Councilman Robert Holden will bring the Lower East Side Ecology Center to the Forest Park Bandshell Parking Lot in Woodhaven from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for electronic waste recycling.

“Since we were not able to have electronics recycling at our bi-annual recycling event, Assemblyman Miller and I made it a point to bring an e-waste event to our constituents,” Addabbo said. “I’m glad to add Councilman Bob Holden as a co-sponsor to this event. Now residents will have an easy way to recycle their electronic waste at a convenient location in their neighborhood.”

Electronics that will be accepted during the event are:

  • Computers (laptops & desktops, servers, mainframes);
  • Monitors (CRT and flat screen);
  • Handheld devices (smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, e-readers, etc.);
  • Network devices (routers, hubs, modems, etc.);
  • Peripherals (keyboards, mice, cables, cords, chargers, etc.);
  • Components (hard drives, CD-ROMs, circuit boards, power supplies, etc.);
  • Printers under 50 pounds, scanners, fax-machines, etc.;
  • TVs, VCRs, DVRs, DVD & Blu-ray Players;
  • Digital Converter Boxes, Cable/Satellite Receivers;
  • Audio-visual equipment (cameras, microphones, etc.);
  • Video-game consoles and accessories;
  • Cell phones, pagers, PDAs.

Items that will NOT be accepted are:

  • Batteries of any kind;
  • Stereo equipment;
  • Landline phones/answering machines;
  • Extension cords;
  • Smoke detectors;
  • Any hazardous materials or paint;
  • Household appliances.

“Since the suspension of e-waste pickup due to COVID-19, we have been receiving inquiries from residents saying they have old televisions, computers and other electronics they want to dispose,” said Assemblyman Miller. “I am happy that Senator Addabbo and I, and co-sponsor Councilman Robert Holden, are now able to provide this e-waste recycling event for our constituents. I want to thank Lower East Side Ecology Center for giving their time and providing their services and the Parks Department for their help in coordinating this event at the Forest Park.”

“It’s important to properly recycle old electronics that are no longer in use, but it can be hard for people to find a place to take them,” said Council Member Robert Holden. “That’s why I’m proud to partner with my colleagues, Assemblyman Mike Miller and Senator Joe Addabbo, to bring this service directly to our constituents to make it easy for them to be environmentally friendly.”

In order to keep everyone safe, NYC Parks Department is requiring all participants to wear masks when in the parking lot, especially when interacting with a volunteer. Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles as much as possible, for the safety of the staff and volunteers. Please have all items in an easily accessible part of the car, such as the backseat or trunk, to allow a volunteer to safely remove them and bring them to the proper location.

If anyone wishes to exit their car, they must have their temperature taken and fill out a visitor health screening questionnaire — as per Parks Department requirements — indicating if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 or if they have been in close contact with someone who has contracted the virus in the previous 14 days. They will also have to provide their name, phone number and email address for contact tracing purposes if it is found that anyone with COVID was present at the event.

“I would like to thank Assemblyman Mike Miller for his continued partnership, Councilman Holden for coming on board and helping to bring this great event to the people, and Lower East Side Ecology Center for being able to help our constituents recycle their unwanted electronics,” Addabbo add. “I hope people come out on October 11 and safely recycle their electronics.”
