Senator-Elect Michelle Hinchey on the Passage of the COVID-19 Emergency Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Act
December 28, 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has left New Yorkers struggling to pay rent and keep up with their mortgage, but no one should fear the threat of eviction or foreclosure during this incredibly challenging time, and especially not during the winter months. My future colleagues in the State Legislature took a critical step today to advance the COVID-19 Emergency Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Act so that renters, homeowners, and small landlords facing economic hardship are protected. This is an important immediate action, but we must also continue to advocate for federally-supported rental assistance programs and longer-term approaches that will keep people in their homes and provide our multi-family homeowners and mom-and-pop landlords with the direct payments they need to stay afloat.”
Michelle Hinchey was elected to the New York State Senate in 2020 to represent the 46th District, which includes all of Montgomery and Greene Counties and parts of Albany, Schenectady, and Ulster Counties. Senator-Elect Hinchey will take office on January 1, 2021.
