New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez Introduces "Anthony's Law" Honoring Auxiliary Police Officers Lost During A State of Emergency

(PATCHOGUE, NY): New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez introduced ‘Anthony’s Law’, that will create a New York State Auxiliary Officer death benefit fund. The bill was named in memory of Suffolk County Auxiliary Police Captain, Anthony J. DeNoyior, who died as a result of COVID-19 which he contracted during his service to the residents of Suffolk County. 

“As volunteers, auxiliary police selflessly give their time to train and assist their communities during community events and emergencies. The COVID-19 pandemic, a declared state of emergency, called all of our first responders to action, including our auxiliary police. Captain DeNoyior spent close to twenty years volunteering his time to help ensure the safety of the residents of Suffolk County. This legislation will help ensure our voluntary officers' families receive death benefit in the event they succumb to the virus and to serve as a recognition for their service,” said Senator Martinez. “This legislation, memorially named, ‘Anthony’s Law’, would entitle Auxiliary Police Officers who die in the line of duty during the COVID-19 state of emergency, to a death benefit of ten thousand dollars. This benefit allows New York State to honor these men and women for their voluntary service.”

Suffolk County Auxiliary Police Captain Anthony J. DeNoyior  was 55 years old when he passed away on April 19, 2020 from complications due to COVID-19. He is survived by his wife, and two sons.
