(PATCHOGUE, NY): New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez was joined by officials from the United States Navy, Suffolk County Police Department and many other officials to honor one of our very own. Senior Chief Boatswain Mate Kevin Nolan has been in the United States Navy for sixteen years and a Suffolk County  Police  Officer for seven years.

During the ceremony, Senator Martinez presented her nomination to Senior Chief Boatswain Mate Kevin Nolan’s wife, Stephanie.  Kevin himself could not be in attendance, but the ceremony was highlighted with a surprise Zoom call where he was able to thank those in attendance and see his beautiful wife. Emotions were felt by all, as Mr. Nolan spoke of his dedication and service.

“This is a wonderful honor for me and my family. It’s also an opportunity to inspire future leaders of this great nation,” said Senior Chief Boatswain Mate Kevin Nolan about being selected as one of this year’s honorees. “Sailors should not follow you because they have to … they should follow you because they were inspired to. I believe a true leader inspires and is inspired by the Sailors he or she leads.”

“It was a tremendous honor to recognize Senior Chief Boatswain Mate and Police Officer Nolan for his dedication and service. Mr. Nolan has served our country and his community with honor and distinction, distinguishing himself in both military and civilian life. Kevin is currently preparing for a fifth deployment to protect and defend our country. .

The sacrifices that Kevin and his family have made for us, while he is serving our country, are greatly appreciated. I was honored to be able to make today a special moment for Kevin and his wife, even though they could not be together, giving them the chance  to see each other and celebrate this award together,” said Senator Martinez.

The event was attended by a strong representation of the Suffolk County Police Department command staff, showing the profound respect and appreciation they too have for Police Officer Nolan’s service. Commissioners Geraldine Hart and James Skopek were joined by Chief of Department Stuart Cameron and Chief of Patrol Robert Brown, as well as members of the Suffolk County Police Veterans Association for today’s ceremony.

“Police Officer Kevin Nolan is well-deserving of this nomination as he has dedicated his life to serving his country and community,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart said. For the past seven years, Officer Nolan has been a member of the Suffolk County Police Department, most recently serving on the First Precinct’s Gang Team and now having spent 16 years with the United States Navy, he is preparing for his fifth deployment. He is an outstanding veteran and member of the department and I would like to express my gratitude to Senator Martinez for recognizing his contributions.”

“Police Officer Kevin Nolan personifies a life of service  and sacrifice, serving both our country in the United States Navy and our county as a member of our department.  He embodies the finest attributes of the members of our department, service before self,” added Chief of Department Stuart Cameron.
