NEW YORK STATE SENATOR
MONICA R. MARTINEZ CALLING ON THE STATE TO EXTEND THE PROPERTY TAX DEADLINE TO ASSIST HOMEOWNERS
DURING THE COVID-19 CRISIS
(PATCHOGUE, NY): New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez is calling on her state colleagues and the Governor to continue their support of New Yorkers during the COVID-19 crisis. “As we continue to discover additional impacts the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the residents of our communities, we are working to ensure we address them accordingly. I am asking the Governor, and my colleagues to support a measure to extend the deadline for property tax payments to ease the financial burden many homeowners are currently facing,” said Senator Monica R. Martinez.
Over the weekend, Senator Martinez spoke with Rich Schaffer, Chairman of the Suffolk County Supervisors’ Association, who is requesting the following:
An order which will allow for residents who pay property taxes on their own, not through a mortgage company or lender, to pay the 2nd half payment up to and including August 1st, 2020 without penalties and interest. Please note, the deadline for payment will remain May 31st, 2020, but this will allow an additional 60 days for residents to make these payments without additional penalty charges.
Move the Assessment Roll final date of May 1, 2020 to August 1, 2020 and;
Move Grievance Day from the third Tuesday in May to third Tuesday in August.
Senator Martinez understands the financial strain and unnecessary stress many residents are facing during this unprecedented time and continues to work to protect them as the state navigates through this pandemic by bringing much needed relief to homeowners.
