GENEVA- Senator Pam Helming recently joined Senator Ortt and her Republican colleagues to call for federal assistance for local farmers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With the implementation of PAUSE NY and the closure or limited operations of typical outlets for dairy products, such as schools, colleges, restaurants and other institutions and vendors, the demand for milk and other agricultural products have been significantly reduced. As a result, farmers are being forced to dump millions of gallons of raw milk. As we see businesses large and small struggling, it is important that every level of government work together to ensure that local farms have the tools they need to weather this storm. Working together, we can protect the family farms that help drive our local economy,” said Senator Pam Helming.
Senator Helming and her colleagues request immediate, direct payments to farmers as well as other actions at both the federal and state levels. This request is similar to other recent requests by Senator Helming, urging assistance and coordination at the state level.
