HELMING URGES LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS TO APPLY FOR SAFER GRANT
April 14, 2020
Geneva-Senator Pam Helming today encouraged local fire departments to apply for the federal SAFER Grant. This important grant can help assist with the cost of training firefighters. The application deadline is May 15, 2020.
“Our firefighters are heroes in every sense of the word. They leave their homes each and every day, not knowing what challenges or dangers they will face. They do an absolutely outstanding job of serving and protecting our communities during emergencies and crises. I have had the privilege of recognizing many of these remarkable men and women, but I also have heard from them about the need to recruit and train more responders. The SAFER program provides an important opportunity for local departments to access funding for this necessary training” Senator Pam Helming said.
The SAFER Grant Program application is available through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program’s FEMA GO (FEMA Grants Outcomes) application portal at https://go.fema.gov. This grant was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained firefighters available in our communities.
