Senator Helming Honored as 2019 Friend of the Farmer
January 6, 2020
GENEVA – Senator Pam Helming has been honored by New York’s farmers as a member of the Farm Bureau’s Circle of Friends. She has been a fierce and outspoken advocate on behalf of New York’s hardworking farmers and their families, despite the continued assault by downstate lawmakers on upstate agriculture.
The “Circle of Friends” distinction is based upon each Legislator’s voting record on issues related to agriculture as well as other evidence of legislative support, including sponsorship of bills that New York Farm Bureau has either supported or opposed during the most recent legislative session.
“Agriculture is the No. 1 industry in the Wayne-Finger Lakes region, and it is a sector that drives the economy of our region and our state and creates local jobs. With that in mind, I am proud to support legislation and budget measures that help our farmers grow and thrive while making their businesses viable and protecting our environment. It's important we work with the agricultural community to protect our family farms and strengthen our community,” Senator Helming said.
“On behalf of Cayuga County Farm Bureau, I would like to thank Senator Pam Helming for all she’s done for the ag community. During her time in office, she has made it a priority to understand the industry and address the issues faced by the farmers of Central New York. She is very deserving of the New York Farm Bureau’s Circle of Friends recognition,” said Raymond E. Lockwood, Jr., Cayuga Farm Bureau President.
"Senator Helming is a strong supporter and advocate for farms in her district and NYS. We are thrilled to honor her with inclusion in the NYFB's Circle of Friends," said Ann Marie Heizmann, Seneca County Farm Bureau President.
“Senator Helming's recognition in the "Circle of Friends" of Farm Bureau is well deserved. Her personable nature combined with her efforts and many hours spent getting to know the farmers and their issues and opportunities have led her to be a great advocate for agricultural businesses in our region. Thank you Senator Helming!,” said Kim Skellie, President of Ontario County Farm Bureau.
