Senator Helming & Sheriff Schenck Announce Free Shed the Meds Event
July 27, 2020
New York State Senator Pam Helming and Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck today announced that they are hosting a “Shed the Meds” event on Saturday, August 1st from 10:00am – Noon. The event will take place at the Auburn Walgreens, located at 314 Genesee Street. All local residents are invited to come and safely dispose of unneeded medications.
“Safe disposal of unneeded medication is critical for both our environment and the health of our community. I am proud to partner with Sheriff Schenck and the Cayuga County Sheriff's Department to bring this opportunity to our area. Medications that are disposed of improperly can make their way into our lakes and waterways, damaging water quality and our environment. It is important to properly dispose of unused medications and keep them out of our water and this event provides a free and convenient way to do that for local residents,” said Senator Helming
“Prevention strategies are an important part of ending drug abuse and addiction in our community. By keeping dangerous prescription medication out of the wrong hands, we are helping to prevent addiction and end drug abuse before it starts. I am thankful that Senator Helming understands how critical it is to keep these medications off of the street and out of the hands of those that could use them without a doctor’s prescription. We both look forward to seeing you at this event,” Sheriff Schenck said.
