Ritchie Urges Governor to Suspend Visitation at Correctional Facilities
December 17, 2020
Recently, I’ve heard from a number of people concerned about the spread of COVID-19 in our correctional facilities. In response, last week, I sent a letter to the Governor, encouraging him to suspend visitation at facilities where it is still permitted.
As the pandemic continues, we all have to make sacrifices to protect our own health and safety, as well as the health and safety of our fellow New Yorkers. Just as many are not permitted to see their loved ones in nursing homes, or others are encouraged not to gather with friends and family, there should also be a pause on visitations in New York’s correctional facilities. This is a necessary step in stopping the spread of COVID-19, protecting the health of those inside our prisons and safeguarding communities where these facilities exist.
