South Salem, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham called on federal government officials today to launch an all-out effort to manufacture and distribute the critical supplies necessary for healthcare professionals to treat coronavirus patients across the country.
“Among my constituents who are in the healthcare field and working in the front lines of the fight against the coronavirus, I am hearing a same desperate plea for more protective equipment and medical supplies,” said Harckham. “This is sad and appalling.”
“The Defense Production Act must be implemented right away—with a particular focus on making sure hospitals have the ventilators and Personal Protective Equipment they need,” continued Harckham. “Every moment the federal government waits to launch this supreme effort against an insidious enemy means more lives will be needlessly lost.
“I am imploring our federal government to launch an all-out national effort to immediately start work on generating the necessary equipment, tools and resources that our healthcare professionals require to do their jobs. There is something seriously wrong when states are trying to outbid each other for protective supplies, and price gouging is going unchecked.”
