South Salem, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham issued today the following statement in response to the news that Allstate will rebate auto insurance customers 15% of their monthly premiums for April and May, and give them free identity protection as well, because of financial hardships caused by the coronavirus pandemic:
“I want to thank Allstate for issuing coronavirus rebate checks to policy holders in recognition of the few miles people are driving, and hence, encountering fewer accidents. It is the socially responsible thing to do, and I thank them for their corporate citizenship.
“Now is not the time for profiteering. Today I am calling for all insurance companies with automobile policies in New York State to follow Allstate’s lead and provide similar refunds to their policyholders. Many car insurance customers really need the money right now because of the economic downturn that we are experiencing, and giving them this support would benefit our communities as well.”
