Senator Harckham Gains State Funding for New Lewisboro Police Vehicle
July 9, 2020
South Salem, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today $55,000 in state grant funding has been awarded to the Lewisboro Police Department for the purchase of a new police vehicle.
“The Lewisboro Police Department patrols and responds to public safety calls across a wide stretch of Northern Westchester, and with lives on the line you need a reliable, high-performance vehicle to keep up with the work,” said Harckham. “I am pleased to be able to help secure funding that will serve the residents in this capacity while also alleviating some of the financial burden on the town’s taxpayers.”
The awarded grant funding, which Harckham secured within the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM), will pay for the purchase of a 2020 Dodge Charger that will be outfitted with emergency and medical equipment.
“We are extremely grateful to Senator Pete Harckham for the grant he obtained,” said Lewisboro Police Department Chief David Alfano. “The new vehicle will be a great help to our department and provide us with a valuable asset toward the protection of our residents and business owners.”
The Town of Lewisboro is served by both the New York State Police, stationed in Somers, and the Lewisboro Town Police, whose 12 officers work out of headquarters in South Salem. Consisting of 29 square miles, the Town of Lewisboro borders Connecticut on the east and stretches west to the Muscoot Reservoir.
In the past year, Harckham has secured SAM funding for numerous community projects and municipal initiatives around the 40th Senate District, including renovations at Lewisboro Town Park, new playground equipment for Fox Valley Town Park and a new police car and stop signs in Somers—saving district taxpayers $8 million in spending. Earlier this year, Harckham announced $170,000 in state grant funding has been awarded to the Town of North Salem to complete two improvement projects—one at Front Street in Croton Falls and another in the Candlewood Lake Park District.
