SENATOR PERSAUD LAUDS MTA CONNECTOR PROJECT
Bringing Our Brooklyn Communities Together
(Brooklyn, NY) – On February 7, 2020, New York State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud (SD-19) attended an MTA press event appropriately named, the ‘L-Project.’ Joined by Assemblymember Walker, MTA, and City/Borough Hall officials, Sen. Persaud praised this infrastructure project which will connect subway riders transferring between the Livonia Avenue ‘L’ train to the Junius Street ‘3’ train station.
“For too long, neighborhoods within my district were separated by poor connections and inadequate service between stations. This long awaited infrastructure project is what our communities need to make inter-borough travel safer, more reliable, and less costly to residents of East New York and Brownsville,” said Sen. Persaud. “This seamless service, which is scheduled to be completed in 2024, will be fulling ADA compliant and handicapped accessible. The proposed connecting walkway between stations will be covered, protecting riders from the elements. Additionally, new improved lighting will help create an environment that is not only brighter and more aesthetically pleasing, but more importantly, improve the safety concerns of riders transferring between these two stations.”
While this project is underway, riders transferring between Livonia Ave. and Junius St. will no longer be charged two separate fares. Sen. Persaud added, “A single swipe of your MetroCard will get you where you need to go and help connect our Brooklyn communities. It is a major benefit for the hardworking residents, students, and youth of our district and helps keep money in their pockets, in many cases cutting their commuter costs in half. I commend the MTA for making this decision during the ‘L-Project’ construction. It will greatly benefit the residents of East New York, Brownsville, and the entire 19th Senatorial District.”
