Senator Mayer & Assemblymember Buchwald Say New York Will Spend Over $9 Million Repaving Roads in Harrison & North Castle
November 5, 2020
State Assemblymember David Buchwald and Senator Shelley Mayer welcomed the news that New York State’s pavement renewal program will include over $9 million for state roads in Harrison and North Castle. The infrastructure work includes sections of State Routes 22, 120 and 433. This funding is a part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s announcement of $357 million for 135 pavement renewal projects throughout New York State.
Senator Shelley B. Mayer (D-Westchester) said: “I am pleased to see over $9 million in pavement renewal projects planned by the NYS Department of Transportation in North Castle and Harrison. Our communities and our local economy depend on infrastructure investment. Thank you to Governor Andrew Cuomo for prioritizing infrastructure investments projects across New York. I am committed to working with my colleagues to support these projects and secure additional resources that improve quality of life, spur economic development and create good paying jobs.”
“Investing in the region’s transportation system supports jobs and our economy while also enhancing highway safety for those who depend on these roads every day,” said Assemblymember David Buchwald (D-Westchester). “Some of the roads being repaved with these state funds have been neglected for too long, and some are in fact the originally concrete roadbed from when the road was first constructed! My thanks to Governor Cuomo and the New York State Department of Transportation for tackling these needed infrastructure improvements.”
Pavement renewal work is slated for these highways:
- $5.2 million to resurface Route 22 from Route 120 to Middle Patent Road in North Castle;
- $2.7 million to resurface Route 120 (King Street) from Lake Street in Harrison to the Greenwich American Centre in North Castle, a stretch that runs past Westchester County Airport;
- $1.0 million to resurface Route 120 (Purchase Street) from Westchester Avenue to Westerleigh Road in Harrison, which, with the above project and work done a few years ago, will mean that all of Route 120 repacking in Harrison will have been funded during Buchwald and Mayer’s time in the State Legislature;
- $490,000 to resurface the entire length of Route 433, from the Connecticut State Line to Route 22 in North Castle.
State transportation officials say the projects will use sustainable techniques such as reusing existing pavement material. They say design work for the repaving work has started and construction will get underway in 2021.
