Susan Serino

December 22, 2020

HYDE PARK, NY – Senator Sue Serino today announced that she has been named Ranking Member of the NYS Senate’s Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation for the 2021-22 Legislative Session. Serino has also been named Vice Chair of the Senate Republican Conference.

Senator Serino said, “The tourism industry employs hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and plays a key role in communities across our state. Here in the Hudson Valley, our tourism industry is a major driver of our local economy, and it has been among the industries hardest hit by this pandemic crisis. Never has it been more important to have strong, independent leaders fighting for the New Yorkers whose livelihoods depend on work in this sector, and I very much look forward to taking on this key role to ensure that their voices are heard.”

Serino will also maintain her position as Ranking Member of the NYS Senate’s Aging Committee, a position she has held since 2019. As Aging Ranker, Serino has been a vocal advocate during this time for seniors across the state, but especially for those living in nursing homes and residential healthcare facilities who have been especially vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Serino will continue to make this issue a top priority in the upcoming legislative Session saying, “To date, the state has not done nearly enough to ensure the health and safety of vulnerable seniors living in these facilities or to empower New York’s seniors to age in place, safely at home. As Ranker of the Senate’s Aging Committee, I will continue to be a vocal advocate for these New Yorkers who have dedicated their lives to building the communities we know and love. I thank Senator Ortt for recognizing my passion for this issue and for allowing me to continue serving in this key capacity.”

The 2021-22 Legislative Session is slated to begin on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.
